Christmas Wishlists

By Mike at November 26, 2009 - 18:26

Quite a few folks have asked about our Christmas wishlists.  Charlene tries to keep everybody's wishlist up to date at http://wishlist.com/937539/.

I'll try to post an update later, but now I'm taking advantage of the fam being in town and going to watch "Men who stare at goats" while they babysit.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Sweet new haircut.

By Mike at November 12, 2009 - 22:20

I didn't quite think this one through.  I had Charlene give me a haircut, but Eli got woke up ready to eat before she was done.  I might get to show off my new hairdo for a while if Eli doesn't go back to sleep...

It's growin' on me...

Wait... it's November already?

By Mike at November 10, 2009 - 23:18

Time flies when you're having fun... or extremely sleep deprived.  It's hard to believe it's been almost a month since my last update.  Seems like the days fly by when you got a month old and a toddler on the loose...

We're finally all over the sicknesses we've been dealing with over the past month.  Charlene got rid of her sinus infection and Beau finally got rid of that evil virus that made him sick for a couple weeks.  That virus sucked so bad that we almost pulled Beau out of school thinking that he would never get sick if we just stayed at the house like hermits.  Instead of quitting school, I just made him a sweet bubble suit like the one in The Boy in the Plastic Bubble.  He'll never get sick now!

Beau and Eli were "Calvin and Hobbes" for Halloween.

It's difficult to get a toddler AND a newborn to pose for pictures.  Here's calvin trying to turn hobbes' frown upside down with a kiss on the cheek. Some comforting from big bro sometimes makes Eli feel better.  It was worth a shot...

We also had to have a backup hobbes for the times that Eli couldn't be dressed up.  We were planning on buying a hobbes doll for Beau to carry around, but they're not for sell anywhere because Bill Watterson refused to license the characters.  Who does he think he is refusing to sell out?  Geez.  That beany baby was the closest thing we could find to hobbes...  Here he is getting ready to head to school for Halloween party day.

We only managed to carve one pumpkin this year.  I tried to get Beau to participate in the carving a little more this year, but he was not a fan of the pumpkin guts. I don't blame him.  I'm not a fan of the pumpkin guts either.

He did like using the poker, but I'm not quite sure he understood that we were trying to trace the picture that we taped on there.  I guess he thought tracing a picture was cheating and he wanted to make his own picture.

The finished product didn't turn out too bad.  Beau likes to scare people by saying "Boo" now, so if he ever sneaks up behind you and says "Boo", act real scared.

Even though he had a fever at the time, I still took him around to a few of the neighbors to go trick or treating.  I couldn't make him miss out on his first Halloween where he could participate in trick or treating!  Hopefully we didn't infect the neighbors with our virus... Here he is with some awesome trick or treat form.

Beau is still not too upset that Eli is here to stay.  He's a "the glass is half full" kind of toddler.  He's just pumped that we dragged out all the old baby toys so that he can play with them again.

"Don't bother looking under the blanket.  It's just Eli underneath here, waiting for you to take me somewhere..."  He still fits.

He can still fit into Eli's clothes too!  Look how well the Hobbes costume fit...

Both of our kids have held onto stumpy (their umbilical cord stump) for as long as possible.  Eli's finally fell off on day 32.  It looked just like a raisin, so I was sure it made it's way to the trash so that Beau didn't accidentally mistake it for a tasty treat.

No wonder my kids are so cute.  They must have got all their beautiful genes from my beautiful wife!

Eli is still sleeping quite a bit.  His periods of wakefullness have started to extend to a couple of hours, but he probably only has a few of those a day.  The rest of the time he's just passed out wherever we lay him down.

 "What's up bro?"

Eli is a fan of the sitting position just like his older brother was.  He holds his head up pretty good in this position, so I'm guessing he likes it because he can get a nice view of the room.  It's also the best way to get him to burp.  Just gotta bounce your knee and pat him on the back for instant burping satisfaction.

I think we've discovered the cure to colic... or at least a good temporary solution.  For both of our kids, bouncing while sitting on an exercise ball with a swaddled baby has never failed to calm them down.  I don't know what it is, but the exercise ball never fails. I'm just extremely grateful that we somehow discovered the exercise ball solution in the early stages of Beau's infancy.  Not that it's easy to bounce on an exercise ball for hours at a time, but it's better than a screamin baby.  It's also a good workout for the back...

We took Eli to his first month checkup the other day.  He's doing great and putting on the weight.  Here are his first month measurements:

Weight: 11lb 7.5oz - 90th percentile.
Height: 22.5in - 70th percentile.
Head Circ: 38cm - 50th percentile. I guess he got his mama's head, because I doubt I was ever in the 50th percentile in nugget size.

I gotta get off of here.  I've been spending valuable sleep time posting this blog update... More pics in the October and November albums if you're interested.
