]> Mike's blog http://old.bockstock.com/?q=blog/1 en Mira! http://old.bockstock.com/?q=node/6904
Mira Jewell Bockus has been here since 2/18 at 2:17pm. She weighed in at 8lb 6oz and 20.5", so our tiniest baby yet! The first few weeks has been pretty crazy but she has been nice to us so far. When she first came out and was screaming her little face off, we thought she looked a little bit like Eli.

Charlene and I decided we were professional photographers that could take her newborn photos. Vegas was mean and didn't let any of us walk away big winners. I have pretty low expectations when it comes to winning in Vegas, so it was a small victory to take $400 to lose and come home with $100. It's a man trip tradition to get our photo taken with the Binion's million dollars. Every year it turns into pictures of us harassing Daddio. Good times were had.

Beau and Eli have been taking their Just Dance playing very seriously. I've been trying to wean them off the Wii now that it's warm outside, but anytime they do get to play it's Just Dance 4 that gets selected. I can only make it through about two songs before I'm exhausted. They don't seem to run out of energy like tiny dancing machines.

Even if I don't blog, I usually upload some photos to bockstock every month. My wife finally started blogging and it's the best blog ever. Yes, even better than this blog.
Fri, 31 May 2013 02:48:27 +0000 Snow Day! http://old.bockstock.com/?q=node/6363
I thought we were going to make it through winter without some serious snow, but today we got a couple inches of heavy sticky snow. Work and school were not cancelled unfortunately, so we got the sled and packed in as much snow playing action as we could before it got dark. The boys are definitely getting older, because they were going to freeze to death before they went back inside. They definitely outlasted their parents.

It's a lot more difficult to find a decent hill now that we don't live in the valley of Wilburton. The best we could do was a small spot in our neighborhood, but the speed and distance was good for the boys. Plus you got to crash through a bunch of weeds at the end:

We never get pictures of both the boys with good smiles, so today was a good day.

They both agreed that sledding was the best part of a snow day.

We wrapped up the snow day by building a snow man in the back yard. I may have given myself a hernia lifting the middle portion. I think that friggin thing weighed about 160lbs, and I hope there were no neighbors around to laugh at my effort. If there were some neighbors watching, I hope they at least took some video.

More pics from our snow day and a previous trip to the science museum in the February 2013 album.
Wed, 13 Feb 2013 03:53:45 +0000 Just blog it. http://old.bockstock.com/?q=node/6319
I was afraid that everyone was too distracted by my blogs since I was blogging so frequently, so I decided to take a 6 month break... :-)

I'll try to bring you up to speed on everything bockstock.

Eli turned three back in October. It's hard to believe my little man is already three years old.

Beau turned five in January. He is still a giant and towers over the other children in his pre-k class, but somehow still lets his little bro take him down when Eli's feeling ornery. Maybe he's just being nice to his little bro.

We celebrated Charlene's birthday with a kidless trip to NYC. It was an awesome trip and we got to see some great shows. We got to see The Daily Show, Late Night w/Jimmy Fallon, Saturday Night Live with Martin Short and Paul McCartney, Chicago, and the Book of Mormon. It was unreal the luck we had getting into these shows. The trip of a lifetime! Thanks to Gingy and Patches for holding down the fort and watching the children while we were away.

I uploaded some photos to the monthly albums for 2012 and 2013 if you want to check them out.

I was checking out the videos on my phone that I've randomly taken over the last few months, and the two below are my two favorites. In the winter time when it's too cold to go outside, we play and unhealthy amount of Wii. Eli started off as terrible as a three year old should be, but now regularly wins 1st. It blows my mind... he must have had an awesome teacher. :-)

The boys got a sweet new playset for Christmas from Gingy and Granddad, and Beau still gets really dizzy on the tire swing. He's missing that inner ear ability that little kids are supposed to have that makes them able to spin around insanely fast and not get too dizzy. He must have inherited my crappy "gets dizzy too easily" gene. Poor guy.

Sat, 09 Feb 2013 02:36:24 +0000 T-Ball ends and we escape the heat. http://old.bockstock.com/?q=node/5997
We just got back from a two week vacation to northern Minnesota. It was well worth the 1000 mile drive to escape the 110+ degree heat here in Oklahoma. We had a nice "Bockus Compound" where my fam, my bro's fam, and my parents all stayed in two cabins on a single lot. Fun family times were had.

Before we went to MN, Beau wrapped up his first t-ball season. Beau takes after his dad when it comes to tball skills. He can hit the ball pretty good, but man does he run sloooow. He didn't get tagged out all season, and he only got hit in the face with the ball one time. I think he liked tball a lot more than soccer. His favorite part was playing second base and distracting batters with poop, pee, and fart jokes so that they forgot to run when the ball was hit. It was actually a pretty good defensive strategy... Here are a few pics and a video of his last at bat.

Keeping his eye on the ball!

Ruuuuun Beau!

The 1000 mile drive to MN wasn't as bad as I anticipated. We hooked up the zombification devices for the boys and they watched the same four Max and Ruby shows about 30 times. They actually got to the point where they knew all the words, and now they'll act out the shows sometimes. It's pretty creepy. Once we got to MN the boys and fam were in for some nonstop action for two weeks.

They didn't always put on their bathing suits before getting in the lake...

Enjoying the lake while we catch massive fish.

Eli loved him some crawdad fishing.

We played the most difficult mini golf course I'm aware of. Eli was so sad when the last hole ate his ball. He's asked me about fifty times since then if we can play mini golf for his birthday this year.

Daddio was the cribbage champion this year. It wasn't even close.

Charlene showing us her mad backflip skills.

Nana loves her some grandbabies!

Eli got a very inappropriate corn dog at the blueberry festival...

Go get it nash!

Regina Bockus showed us how not to ski.

Gordon loves to give Nana a good massage... especially when she doesn't want one so she gets all tense. Then we make her say the alphabet before he'll stop. It's my new favorite Minnesota activity.

We had a really good time this year. The boys are already asking about when we get to go back. There are a lot more photos of the MN action in the July 2012 album.
Fri, 10 Aug 2012 02:23:00 +0000 Summertime and the livin's easy http://old.bockstock.com/?q=node/5664
June was pretty crazy. We kept ourselves busy with a triathlon, a mud run, man trip to vegas, tball for Beau, and swim lessons. The triathlon went really well and we both dramatically improved our times over last year. Charlene managed to beat me in the swimming portion, so I'm going to be training on nothing but swimming until the next tri... :-)

The mud run was a little more painful. It was a 5k with 13 obstacles and I managed to hurt my knee and pick up poison ivy along the way. It would have been good mud run times if it wasn't for the injury and the itchy butt for the next month. Here are some before and after pics:

Before:

After:

The annual Bockus man trip was about as successful as it is every year in that most of us lost money. I actually came home with some money left over which is an improvement over previous years. Every year we get some free pics with a million bucks. One of these years the million dollars won't be protected encased in plastic and we'll be RICH! Until then we'll settle for this...

OMG WE WON!

I think we had just lost some funds at the poker table, so here is how we really felt...

He likes it when we do this.

We've been spending a lot of time hanging out in the back yard too. I'm afraid to find out what my water bill is going to be. The boys favorite thing to play with is the water hose, and I think I filled up about 800 water balloons. Here's some of my favorite pics from June.

Slip 'N Slide!

The camera barely survived.

Nap time

We had bumpers, and I don't think any of us managed a strike the whole game.

Beau can grow a better stache than I can.

Thu, 05 Jul 2012 15:38:53 +0000 I'm getting old. http://old.bockstock.com/?q=node/5568
May flew by and we're already well into June. We've definitely been able to keep ourselves busy. In May my little sister graduated from high school. We made the trip down to Wilburton to watch her graduate and hear her valedictorian speech. She's definitely a grade whore, and I'm super proud of her and what she's accomplished so far. The boys had a fun time playing with the cousins. Below are some pics from the trip:

My mom thought looking into the lens would mean I could capture her soul with my shutter. Either that or she was afraid she'd start crying if she looked into the camera... I'm not sure which. :-)

One proud daddio

They know how to pose for the camera.

I was getting attacked by screaming monsters. The boys had a good time, but their favorite part might have just been break dancing on the floor. Who needs to look at dinosaur bones when you can roll around on the floor like crazy people??

Standing in front of the biggest dinosaur skull there is. You can tell how impressed they are.

Look out behind you!

Eli and Mommy are not too concerned about dead dinosaurs.

Time for some break dancing!

We know how to break it down...

We could't leave Norman without a trip to Rusty's Frozen Custard! I think this was the boys first trip to Rusty's. Eli was more than willing to share his topping with you...

First you take a big ol bite.

Then you spit out the toppings after sucking off the custard.

Then you share! Gummy bears for everyone!

Thanks Eli, but I'll pass... I also turned 29 in the month of May. I feel 43... I feel old.
Thu, 07 Jun 2012 01:05:14 +0000 April was... AWESOME! http://old.bockstock.com/?q=node/5505
April has been a busy month. We started the month celebrating Easter and Alumni weekend and ended it with a quick trip to the Great Wolf Lodge. Everything in between was just a blur...

The Easter weekend in Wilburton was good times. The boys love all things Easter, so they loved the nonstop egg dying and easter egg hunting action. Charlene and I made our debut in the Alumni softball game. We didn't manage to help the odds end their 3 year losing streak, but we tried to keep it competitive. It was good to get away and we had an awesome time. When we got there, Eli walked up to the window where he could see the waterpark and said "AWESOME!". Then everything about everything for the rest of the trip was "AWESOME!". The boys would have slept on the water slides if we would have let them. Here's a few pics from the trip:

Eli was ready to go!

Goggles were a necessity at all times on this trip.

We were so excited about slides!

They have grown just a little since last time.

We were so tired by the time story time rolled around, our eyes were rolling into the back of our heads.

There's a lot more Easter and Wolf Lodge pics in the April 2012 album.
Tue, 01 May 2012 02:37:30 +0000 Warm weather couldn't get here fast enough. http://old.bockstock.com/?q=node/5429
Making it through a winter with two small boys in your house is no easy task. They destroy everything. We had to turn our guest bedroom into a "play room" in an attempt to isolate the damage. One of the energy burners in the play room is a sweet trampoline that Beau got for his bday from his good friend Piper. It makes ridiculous noises every time you jump on it, so the boys love jumping on it. Too bad it gets really annoying after a few minutes for anybody having to listen. It does make for some awesome pics though...

The boys only got to enjoy one snow day this year, and it barely lasted long enough to make a snow mickey.

If the temps ever got above 50, I usually forced us to play outside. We had a few chilly days at the playground, but I think Spring is officially here now.

Beau started playing soccer a few weeks ago. He can kick and throw like a beast, and he loves going to practices, but his performance in games has been a little.... what's the right word... sad. He's getting better though. He had a hard time getting past everybody not taking turns to kick the ball, so he mostly just stood there and hoped that the ball would come to him.

Here's Eli kicking back and enjoying one of Beau's soccer games. Eli is really sad that he's not old enough to play yet. Maybe Beau's team will not have enough players one of these days and Eli can sub in.

Eli has also been practicing tball at the house. I uploaded some video of him in action:

Santa brought Beau a kid camera for Christmas, and I now have about 400 awesome kid made videos.

These crazy children crack me up...
Wed, 21 Mar 2012 02:29:54 +0000 Happy 4th Birthday Beau! http://old.bockstock.com/?q=node/5371
My little man Beau has turned four years old! I stayed home to celebrate his birthday on the 4th and then we threw him a spiderman party this last weekend. He was trying to make me quit my job when he was about to blow out his candles and wished that Daddy would stay home from work all the time. Who needs money when you can stay home and play! I haven't made his wish come true quite yet, but I'll probably play the lottery at least a couple times to see if I can make it happen. Here's a few pics from the party.

This picture makes me laugh for some reason.

He blew out the candles like a champ.

My wife is an amazing woman and makes some pretty special cakes for our boys!

Eli enjoying gigantic bites of cake and ice cream.

I decided it would be a good idea to get 13 cans of silly string and let kids spray the "green goblin" with their "web". Not the best idea I've had... I think I still have some silly string somewhere in my nasal cavity. I think the children enjoyed it though, so it's totally worth it.

Beau had a good birthday and had a hard time believing all those presents were for him. He asked if next year his birthday would be on Jan 5th since he would be turning 5. We told him it would always be the 4th... that concept was just too difficult to understand. Good thing we have a year to get that figured out. More bday pics in the Jan 2012 album.
Tue, 10 Jan 2012 01:43:16 +0000 Santa needs to go on a diet. http://old.bockstock.com/?q=node/5331
We made the annual trip to Wilburton for Christmas. Patches decorated her house like Christmas and the boys liked slowly destroying the place while we stayed there. We had some good Christmas times and I ate way too many cake balls and other delicious things. Here are a few of my favorite pics from Christmas this year...

Eli was a happy camper after the christmas morning destruction.

Beau took about 350 pictures within five minutes of opening his present from Santa.

Me and my beautiful wife.

My sister was so excited about her Harry Potter legos. It was strange, sad, and hilarious all at the same time.

We had a good time playing with the cousins. That Bockus house gets pretty crazy with all the grandchildren. Beau and Eli had a good time playing "Ball in the hall" with Gracie and Madison. Brought back some good memories of when me and Gordon played catch in our hallway. You can still see the ball dents in the drywall. Good times... There are about 100 more pics in the December 2011 album.

Our super nice neighbors invited us over for some grub once we got back into town. I was excited because their daughter got this awesome ball toy that the kids get in and then you roll them around. It was so much fun torturing the children!!
 Wed, 04 Jan 2012 03:19:15 +0000 Merry Christmas! http://old.bockstock.com/?q=node/5224
Merry Christmas from the Bockus clan! I've been busy working on my latest android app and that's my excuse for not putting up a blog for the last couple months. If you want to check out my latest app, you can download it from https://market.android.com/details?id=com.bockosoft.screener

I did make time to make the annual Bockus Christmas card using my amateur photoshop skills. Charlene can come up with some pretty rad card ideas and then it's my job to actually take the pics and make the magic happen in photoshop. Here is this years card:

Beau and Eli's preschool put together a Christmas program this year. Beau must have been lucky enough to get my beautiful singing gene, because you can hear his beautiful voice loud and clear in this video. Beau is in the orange family and you can tell when he joins in on the singing...

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Tue, 20 Dec 2011 21:21:50 +0000 Happy 2nd Bday Eli and Happy Halloween http://old.bockstock.com/?q=node/5221
I'm just a little behind on the blogging. Eli went from being my little baby boy to my big baby boy when he turned two on Oct 4th. He was super excited about his Mickey cake and his new skill of holding up two fingers when I ask him how old he is. It took him a while to master the two finger hold up, so he made me mold his fingers for a few days before he finally got the hang of it. Below are some pics of the birthday boy.

He was super pumped about the trains he got for his birthday and has almost played with them every day since.

Gingy and Granddad bought him some tickets to go see Thomas the train. He loved the Thomas train ride, but was totally creeped out by Sir Topham Hat. I can't really blame him...

We also went out to Chester's Party Barn where Eli had a great time holding the goat feed just out of reach.

We almost lost them when they ran off in the maze.

The rest of October just kind of went by in a blur. We made it down to Wilburton on one of the weekends to watch Aunt Regi be a homecoming queen attendant and the drum major. Beau and Eli actually had a great time at the game.

Eli helped PaPa call the game.

I have never seen two football players more excited about being in a coronation than these guys...

I tried talking her into marching onto the field like the OU drum major's do, but she didn't go for it.

Sometimes you have to just wrap your kids up really tight in a blanket and set them in front of the tv. It's like swaddling...

Halloween did not go quite as planned this year. I ended up with a gnarly stomach bug on Halloween evening, so Charlene had to take the boys out solo while I stayed home and drove the porcelain bus. The boys had a good time and filled up their buckets with some delicious looking candy. We stole an idea from our neighbor and had the great pumpkin make a visit to our house that night. The great pumpkin takes all the candy, except for a few pieces that you put to the side, and leaves a cool prize in it's place. The boys were a little nervous about the idea of giving up all their candy, but they were glad to have a present instead. The "great pumpkin" then ate too much candy and made himself sick...

Eli was Max from the book Where the Wild Things Are. His extremely talented Mama made him this sweet costume.

Beau decided he wanted to be superman this year. This is the first time he put it on. I guess he thought spiderman liked to stand like a chicken.

After weeks of practice, his spiderman stance on Halloween was much better. Here he is shooting out some webs.

There are some more quality pics in the October 2011 album.
Fri, 11 Nov 2011 03:09:43 +0000 Summer is over. http://old.bockstock.com/?q=node/5096
It's official... it's no longer 100+ degrees outside. The pool has been emptied. We can leave the windows open and turn off the A/C. The extended Bockus family goes up north every year and stays in cabins on Lake Vermillion. We had an awesome time boating, fishing, and doing damage control with all the Bockus cousins getting together. The boys just lose their mind when they get to play with their cousins Gracie, Madison, and Addie. They did their best over the two weeks we were there to fill up the lake with rocks... they didn't quite make it but I think the lake might have risen a little because of their efforts.

Here are some of my favorite photos from the trip.

A beautiful family pic thanks to Randy!

Regina doesn't really like to touch the fish... or catch it really. You're just going to have to check out the 200+ pics in the July 2011 album. We had a great time with the fam!

Some other news... I quit my job at IBM and started working for Cox Communications here in OKC. I had been at IBM for seven years and was just ready for something new. I'll miss working from home and the perks that came with it (more time with the boys, lunch with the fam, no commute, etc), but I was in desperate need of finding a job that I look forward to going to. So far Cox has been great and I think I'll really enjoy working there. Plus they give me free cable internet and free cable tv with all the premium channels! Does a better benefit exist??! I don't think so...
Thu, 11 Aug 2011 01:12:54 +0000
